Yearbook 2010: March

The past week and a half has been crazy. Apologies for not blogging. I have wanted to, but by the end of the days I am beat and hitting the sack. Today? Battling a migraine, but I had some work I had to get done before I lay back down for another nap.

The following photos are from March of last year. Wow, almost a year ago. The last year just flew by in a blink. I cannot believe it.

Some of my favorite photos are in true black and white. I can't get enough of true black and white film. The depth is incredible.

A fun little vacation we took spur of the moment last year. We hit WPPI in Vegas and then spent a few days in St. George. Man, if I could afford a house and could have enough work to sustain me in southern Utah, I would move there in an instant.

A rarity. I have a handful of photos of me with all of my babies. So rare in fact, I should sell a copy of it on eBay.

One that Joth took. A little blurry, but again, a rarity around here.

My grandparents were married here. If I could, I would go back in time and this is the temple I would be sealed in. No ifs, ands or buts. Truly, I would elope and just go.

Such a beautiful place.

There is no need to tell you how rare this is either. Love that I have it. Love.

Okay, so remember two Sundays ago it was my birthday? Well, the plan was to do some giveaways on my birthday week. Then some people died and all of that got thrown out the window. Stay tuned tomorrow (crossies) as I have one of two beautiful giveaways for you. You won't want to miss out on the fun.

Fayette, New York: Peter Whitmer Cabin

I thought I would resume the sharing of our vacation photos. These were all shot on a Nikon N80 with Fuji 400h. I am amazed at how much I have grown in photography in just the past three months. I am thankful for how confident film is making me. I do love these photos so very much. I was in the mood to play with the sun, and rimming. Very pleased with the results. (SO geek I know.)

Anyway, I loved it here. LOVED. The Peter Whitmer Cabin. This is where the LDS church was organized. The land and surrounding areas are so beautiful. Fields and trees as far as the eye can see. Breathtaking. My kids loved running around in the grass, the log fences were TDF. Sigh. I long to go back. I would move to upstate New York in an instant. Truly, I would. Especially since my BFF Bec now lives there. T'would be a double bonus.

Wow, a family photo! Truly. We were lucky to get a handful of these on our trip. VERY fun.

Please note I am 12, YES 12 lbs thinner NOW than in this photo, and my hair is super long. I regretfully inform you that those 12lbs were lost from one place...my boobs. :(

My brother has been BEGGING me to continue posting photos from our trip, so I thought what better time than now?

Travelling to New York City, then to Upstate New York was a fulfillment of a life long dream. I am such a history buff it isn't even funny. Combine that history love, with the love of my religion, and well, I am one happy girl.

The peace I felt in this place is indescribable. Tears come to my eyes just thinking about it. My heart longs to go back. If I could, I would live there. LIVE there I tell you. It is beautiful, peaceful, reverent. Amazing.


Very grateful I could take my sweet family there, and share such a neat experience with them. I wish you could have all gone with me. Truly.

New York: Part 5 Statue of Liberty

Advice and things we did while waiting to visit Miss Liberty. (In no particular order.)

Get there EARLY. As in, 6:00 a.m. to stand in line early. (Or so is the word on the street.) Or else stand in a REALLY long line for 4 hours, and MAYBE get a chance to see her.

Be super disappointed when finding out they only give out 3,000 tickets daily to go any farther than the height of the island. We got to stay on said island while we watched hundreds of people enjoy her feet. (Sorry Sam, I couldn't get your shot because we were shunned to the ground.)

If you want to hang with the cool kids, get your tickets here, so you can go to the crown and see the statue as she was meant to be seen.

The wisest man I have ever met in my life was selling water to the hot and huddled masses standing in said line of death. He must be a millionaire.

Sit on the benches if someone can hold your place in line. Make sure to sit by someone wearing a beautiful Sari.

Try to divert the attention of your children from the 90 degree weather and 70% humidity by letting them get super dirty and pick up rocks, sticks, and pull the seeds out of the tree pods. Then take photos of all of those things so they can remember them.

Look down at the ground. There is a lot of spit out gum on the sidewalks of New York City, and really pretty sewer covers. Wait, can sewer covers be pretty?

Get teary when seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time, up close from the ferry.

Take a rare family photo with the New York City skyline behind you. And thank film because you can actually see the skyline.

Edit photos of New York on a gray background in photoshop, because if you use black, you will see the negative on your scans. Oops.

Lastly, take a photo of your kids in front of Miss Liberty. You may have to lay on the ground on all of that gum we discussed (because of the lack of a wider angle lens) but it will be worth it. See their smiles and be thankful you came. Five hour trip and all.
